Catfish tropical fish tank setup
|
Catfish come in many sizes, and in some cases need a very large tank. If you are keeping a large catfish like a
Redtail catfish or Marmoratus catfish then
it might be best kept in a fairly bare tank on its own, unless the tank mates are also large, otherwise they will be eaten. Some smaller
catfish like Synodontis catfish can be aggressive towards each other, and are best kept in groups. Smaller catfish can be kept with other tank mates
without the fear of being eaten. African Synodontis catfish like Multipunctatus, ( cuckoo ), or Petricola can be kept with African Rift Lake
cichlids, and like a lot of rocks in the tank to provide, hiding places. Ocean or sea rock is good because it acts as a natural buffer for
the ph, along with a coral sand or coral gravel substrate again helping to buffer the ph. Other catfish like Corydoras are peaceful and can
be kept with community fish or discus and prefer a lower ph to the synos, around neutral or slightly acidic.
