Gravel
Gravel plays a number of roles
in the aquarium:
-
it anchors rooted plants, stopping them from floating
up to the top of the tank;
-
harbours good bacteria that eat
left over food and fish waste, keeping down harmful tank chemicals and pollutants;
-
provides colour and decoration, making the appearance of the tank more pleasing
;
-
catches fine debris that would
be stirred up by the fish and water movement making the tank appear
cloudy.
The choice of gravel should be made with the following considerations:
pleasing to look at; no sharp edges; chemically
inert; thoroughly cleaned before use; about 2
inches at the back banked down to 1 inch at the front is ample and looks good. | |
